Visit The Goonies House

Hey You Guys!!!  Ahh...I couldn't resist!

As a child of the 80's I loooooooved The Goonies.  When I found out that visiting the Goonies house was a doable drive from Portland I knew I needed to take the trek to see it. It was like taking a pilgrimage to a part of my childhood.

If you think about it, a huge chunk (heh, Chunk) of the movie was about saving this house from being demolished.  So, it's a pretty big deal.  ;)

The Goonies house lives in a sleepy waterfront town named Astoria.   In fact, most of the movie was filmed in Astoria.  I kinda loved Astoria.  I loved the old Victorian homes, the lack of traffic, and the unpretentious aging buildings.

The Goonies was released in 1985, and not a whole ton has changed in Astoria.  The house, and the surrounding views still look about the same

The Goonies house is located at 368 38th St, and from the street you can't see the house, but you do see a welcome sign at the bottom of the driveway....

There were a handful of other tourists also visiting the house, and I couldn't help but notice the majority of them were around my age.  Most of them probably grew up watching the Goonies like me, and most of them probably attempted doing the Truffle Shuffle at least once in their lives.

At one point the owner of the house came out to say hello, and I have to admit I was a tad disappointed when it wasn't Mikey.  It would have also been nice to see Data flying in from the neighboring house.  I am however appreciative that the owners love to share their home driveway to other Goonies.

As an added Goonies bonus, we visited Cannon Beach, also home to several scenes from the Goonies, in fact, One Eyed Willie's ship "lived" in one of those huge boulders.

Haha! That's a pretty awesome adventure! I love the Goonie foot traffic sign. It's been a looong time since I've watched the Goonies. This post has inspired me to rewatch it!

I usually watch it when I am flipping the channels and see it on TV. I did watch it after visiting the house and I kept screaming at the TV, "Oh my gosh, I was there...Oh mah gosh I saw that!!"
