San Diego Botanical Gardens

February 2nd, 2011

Are you visiting San Diego anytime soon?  Then if you're around the first Tuesday of the month make sure to check the San Diego Botanical Gardens out.  It's free!  You only have to pay $2 for parking!

The gardens are nestled in a coastal town called Encinitas, and you can't beat having a view of the Pacific Ocean as you walk through the gardens.  Even in February the flowers have already started to bloom, and I can't wait to go back in Spring to really see the gardens at its peak.

One of my ongoing goals is to take more photos (and eventually sell a print or two), and last January I took an all day photography class just to learn how the heck to even work my camera!  I still am probably only about 50% comfortable using my camera, but I haven't touched the automatic setting since taking the class a year ago.  For convenience I still love using my little point and shoot, but hopefully as my comfort level goes up with my SLR I will eventually use it more than my little guy.

Unfortunately, I brought the wrong lens (a cheap semi-telephoto lens) that made macro shooting difficult as it had a hard time focusing when I got close to the object.  One day I will be able to afford that L-series lens that cost nearly as much as my monthly mortgage payment.  Until then...I will have to work with what I have!

Thanks...I'm gonna really try working on a 'portfolio' during the year and see what else I can muster out of my camera.

Those pictures are wonderful! We have a local art gallery that has a beautiful garden on the river. You made me want to hop out of bed, toss some clothes on and hit the gallery.
