2015 In Review

December 30th, 2015

Well guys it's time for my annual confession year in review, and what a year 2015 has been.  I definitely spent a good four months of the year on the road.  I am EXHAUSTED!  I will definitely be taking it a lot more easy for the first half of 2016 because I have some big life changes coming ahead, for instance I am selling my house to move in with the man.  Let's be honest, we have practically lived together for awhile now but now it will be more official.

Anyways....so here is 2015 in a nutshell....

I started off the year traveling solo from January to March in Southeast Asia.  It was amazing and cheap!

I started off my trip in Vietnam.  I loved Vietnam!  It is crazy, and busy, but the food is delicious and it is so cheap!  I rode in motorbikes throughout Ho Chi Minh City, floated on the Mekong River, went to Halong Bay, rode a bike all day along the countryside, learned how to make amazing vietnamese food, and had lots of massages, spa treatments and beer.

I then made my way to Laos where I saw so many beautiful temples, took another cooking class, volunteered at a school to teach English, hiked to an awesome waterfall, and then visited an elephant sanctuary to train to be a mahout (elephant trainer).  We got to feed the elephants, bathe them, and learned how to signal for them.  We then had to climb up and down them which was NOT graceful!

Cambodia was next!  I temple hopped around Angkor Wat for a few days, and then I woke up at 4AM one morning to crowd around a sea of people to witness one of the most amazing sunrises I have ever seen!  So worth the early wake up call.

My last stop in Southeast Asia was Thailand.  I had an incredible time in Thailand!  Naturally, I had to take a cooking course there since I LOVE LOVE LOVE Thai Food.  I went kayaking, did some white water rafting, visited some amazing beaches, did more temple hopping, visited my friend living in Bangkok where he took me to a lady boy club, and visited some tigers.  To people who think tigers at these parks are sedated then you are certainly wrong!  One of the big giant tigers got up as I was petting him and I had to walk alongside him for at least thirty feet!  The baby tigers were so playful I had a hard time keeping up with them!   I met up with two friends from back home and we went to another elephant sanctuary.  This was just as amazing and we ended the day having a huge water fight as we bathed the elephants.

On my way back home to San Diego I had a layover in Japan.  I decided to extend my layover and stay for a few days.  The weather in Japan was a vast difference to the weather in southeast Asia.  So combined with the temperature body shock, and a bit of a food poisoning I got from eating all sorts of street food in Thailand I became one sick puppy.  I spent three days in my hotel room throwing up and on the toilet!  It was awful!  I did make it to the foot of Mount Fuji (because of the weather that was the highest point we could reach), rode on a bullet train, and had some fresh sushi!

Shortly after getting back from Southeast Asia I went to Sedona with my friend Amanda.  We flew into Phoenix and rented a car and drove to this amazing little place in Arizona.  It is definitely one of the most naturally beautiful places in the world!  We did lots of hikes and did an off roading tour up the mountains.  We made a stop to Scottsdale on the way home before returning our rental car in Phoenix.

In June I took my annual trip to New Orleans to visit my friend.  This time it was to go for her graduation from residency school!  I did some first like eating fresh oysters, and rode those touristy  pedal boats on the lake.  I don't know who thinks those pedal boats are fun, but for us they were pure torture, but I am sure the extreme heat probably did not help our cause.

If I wasn't working, traveling or dealing with every day "life" issues, then I was in Arizona on the Colorado River on my man's boat.  All in all I think I went about 10 times throughout the year.  We spent many holidays there like Birthdays, Easter, Memorial Day, and Fourth of July.  Earlier in the year we were able to go camping, and as the Arizona heat took over we would get hotels or take the RV.  I got to go tubing for the first time, and floating on the river is like no other!  I miss it and I can't wait till the water rises again so we can make it back there!

In November the man and I went to his favorite place in the world for a few weeks, that place is Costa Rica.   We rented an amazing 2100 square foot house just steps to the beach with an infinite pool that overlooked the ocean.  We did a ton of crazy things like going on the longest zip line, taking an ATV in the pouring rain and crossing rivers, seeing an active volcano, crossing suspension bridges, seeing some amazing beaches, and seeing hundreds of turtles lay eggs on a beach!  The last thing we did in Costa Rica was visit this cool animal rescue where we got to hold hands with monkeys and feed them.

Our last trip was two weeks ago to Tucson to visit friends.  Unfortunately I don't have the energy to find the pictures from that trip but it wasn't as eventful as some of my other adventures anyways.

I can't wait for 2016.  I should be getting my new passport in the mail any day now.  I can't wait to cross off more items off the list!

Happy New Year to you all!
