I found a Flower Growing Kit at Marshalls in May 2011 and decided to give it a try. I chose a Daisy because I heard they were easy to grow, and they handled being in a pot well. The kit came with a pot, seeds and soil.
I put the soil in the pot and sprinkled the seeds evenly over the top. I placed saran wrap over it (actually I used Press & Seal cause I love it so much more), and it was not to be removed until the seeds began to sprout.
Then the sprouts appeared, and as you can see I did not do a great job spreading the seeds evenly! Crap, I suck at this!
I then had to remove most of the sprouts (only picking the healthiest) in order for the daisies to have room to grow. After I did this the seedlings looked a lot more evenly distributed.
I placed it by my large glass sliding door so that it got an ample amount of sun, and then patiently watched the sucker grow. It grew so large in fact that I felt like I had a garden in my kitchen, but after months of solely green leaves their was still no sight of any daisies. Discouraged, I was ready to abort the mission and just toss the whole thing in the garbage.
Finally in September I found my first few Daisies, granted they were pretty tiny, but they were recognizably Daisies! I don't think I will ever have a so-called Green Thumb, and I have no intention of having one! I'll stick with trying to keep my succulents alive (which are nearly impossible to kill)!

My mom gave me something similar and I gave up when there were many months of nothing but green leaves growing. I did manage to successfully grow basil, but I went on vacation for a week and my husband 'forgot' to water it. Grr.
Trust me, I was on the verge of giving up!
I love basil, I always get the potted ones at Trader Joes cause they are the same price as the ones already packaged. They last for about 2-3 weeks before withering.
OOh well done on growing the daisy:-) I've often grown things from seeds, have to admit though they often seem to just produce green leaves as opposed to flowers:-)
It was more frustrating than it should be! I was seriously growing a forest of green leaves in my kitchen!
