ABBA and a Musical in one! Count me in!
When I first heard about Mamma Mia! I immediately knew it was something I had to watch. I grew up listening to ABBA.
My sister and I went to the Civic Theater to see a showing, and as soon as we stepped in we knew we had entered cougar-ville. I can only imagine that these women saw ABBA live during their prime. They probably played ABBA at their weddings, and met their husbands at a disco with these songs blaring through the speakers.
In a tiny nutshell, Mamma Mia! is about a young woman who is days from getting married. She invites three men, one of them potentially being her biological father. Her mother is shocked to see the men at their home in Greece. Her mother eventually falls back in love with one of the men.
The musical wasn't my favorite. The singing was mediocre, and the set was just blah (for lack of a better word). For a musical that is supposedly set on a Greek Island, I was anticipating something more representative of Greece.
The highlight for me was at the end when the entire audience stood up singing and dancing to Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen. Those cougars? They sure knew how to rock it!
