Meg & Amber getting ready to roast the marshmallows
When I was a child I would make smores by heating chocolate and
marshmallows in the microwave. Sad, I know right? Growing up I was
DEADLY afraid being around fire. Once upon a time I almost burned down
the house making scrambled eggs. I've also been in a burning building,
and had to evacuate in my jammies while hot firemen were climbing up the
stairs asking me to point them to the fire (shame!). The worst was in
middle school when I was booted out of science class for a day because I
was too scared to light the bunsen burner. My science teacher made me
spend the entire period outside lighting matches. So pathetic! I've
also been evacuated for DAYS from my home because of wildfires.
Really...fires and me don't mix.
Assembling the smore
It wasn't until after college that I started using candles (only with
long matchsticks, or a lighter). Every year I do get a little braver!
So I thought what better way to help me get a little more comfortable
with fire then by making smores! I love my sweets, and I can never
oppose to chocolate!
Sarah getting ready to eat!
So on a beach in Southern California I made real smores...with no microwave in sight! I had some friends to help me with the process!
I am definitely going to be doing this again! Yum Yum!

I freakin' LOVE smores. Except I use Nutella for the chocolate!!! Yum!
Oooo...Nutella is a great idea! I am going to try that next time!
Geez, it DOES sound like you have had bad luck around fires! Growing up we'd do it over the grill after cooking out. We'd also use wire hangars, which I thought was better than using a dirty stick.
Congrats on getting this one accomplished and hopefully this will be the turning point for your history with fire. I've been dying to have a cook out on the beach - hopefully soon!
